Lou began studying the piano at the age of eight. Lou was born into a musical family. His father was a vocalist and played accordion professionally and his mother played the piano. Lou took lessons for eleven years from his uncle William Manzie, a prominent pianist from Newark, New Jersey who performed for over 60 years in the metropolitan area and played piano on a nightly radio broadcast during the 1930's. Lou Di Falco began playing professionally at age sixteen. Although he played in rock bands, his passion was always jazz piano. At an early age, Lou spent hours practicing and listening to the likes of Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson, and Herbie Hancock. In 1975 Lou enrolled in the Berklee College Of Music in Boston. There he studied jazz piano with resident pianist Dean Earl while working toward a degree in music composition. While at Berklee, Lou played with musicians who went on to achieve great success, most notably Tonight Show band leader Kevin Eubanks and Emmy Award winning composer Edward Dzubak. After receiving his degree in 1979, Lou went on to perform jazz gigs with small combos, big bands and as a solo pianist. Lou has composed music for radio and TV commercials. He was in the studio quite often recording his own music or working as a sideman for other musician's recording projects. Lou composed music under-score heard on the CBS daytime drama "Guiding Light" during the 1990s. He received Emmy Award Honors for his music underscore for the 1995-96 season. Currently Lou performs solo piano for various events including wedding cocktail hours, anniversaries, birthdays, and dinner parties. Lou has been an ASCAP member since 1993. |
